EASTSIDE

                                                       EASTSIDE
                                               8x8 Inch oil on panel

It's so interesting to study ones works. I painted this last year, it's been hanging out on the wall in my studio along with all the other works, so it has plenty of company; I usually gance over all that I have painted, gering up my mind for the next masterpiece hahaha.   So the other day I zeroed in on this one "EASTSIDE" and thought this could use a little tweak here and there and, to my surprise I was correct in my decision.  First off I softened the street lights and their reflection on the ground, added the crossing sign in the foreground, pulling the eye into the picture, put some warmth in the doorway of the little diner, the sign is in the front out of our view, strong some more lights in the back for the outside dining, I'm now happy; Oh by the way, good fried chicken every Wed night.

APPROACHING

                                                             APPROACHING
                                                             6X6 oil on panel

It was up north on a cloudy weekend when I spotted this meadow of deep burnt umber's mixed with golden shades. All supporting a gathering of rumbling clouds and the approach of rains  to come.  Yet unfazed, the grazing went on without a care, I thought to myself, could I do that, could I be unfazed by what might be approaching.     (SOLD)

"LIGHT SHOW"

                                                         "LIGHT SHOW"
                                                              10X10 oil

With evening quickly approaching, I was able see city lights come on, slowly at first then more and more made there entrance.  Adding to this show, both the clouds and tips of the hills caught the last rays of sunlight that danced and shimmered across their surface thus ending another great and outstanding performance.   I have tickets for tomorrows show, I hear it will be just as good as this one.

This will be seen at the  Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach this summer

"THE JOURNEY"

                                                           "THE JOURNEY"
                                                         24X24 oil on canvas

There comes that time when one has to see what is down that road.  It is hard to say no to that calling.  Leaving can be a challenge but, with blue skies ahead and endless possibilities, the moment has come to say goodbye to the old and say hello to a new journey.  In painting this, I too went on a journey.  I wanted to express the vastness of life, the scale of the boy to the barn and the lands before him. It took a long time for me to feel what I wanted to convey, and like the boy, I ventured out and feel I have achieved  that goal.

This painting is available and will be at this summers Laguna Beach Festival of Arts in Southern California.

"TANGERINE SUNSET"

                                                  "TANGERINE SUNSET"
                                                    10X10"  oil on canvas

With so many sunsets to choose from to paint, I came across this photograph I had taken when there was still film.   Not knowing how long ago I took this I thought "why not paint it"? In seeing the coloring of the photo, there was a feeling of nostalgia and simpler times or so it seemed.  We speed through a year, text for talking, stop remembering phone numbers for its all in the iCloud... I'm glad I paint for I get to step back in those moments and reside there for a time.   So now I'll post this, put it on Facebook, web-site, email back comments and check my iPhone for any up-dates.   Yes! I'm a tech junkie when not painting, lucky me.

"HARVEST"

"HARVEST" a 6x6" oil on wood

Loving the open plans and fields alike I know I had to paint this.  I took countless photos of the American plains when traveling to shows back east.  Still love looking at what I takes to harvest the lands and all the hard work that goes into it.   I wanted to do this and I will be working on some larger canvass of said subject.  Stay tuned for that post.

"LAGUNA MORNING"

                                                           "LAGUNA MORNING"
a 6x6 inch study on wood

After months of painting only my large canvass it feels so good to return to my small studies on wood.  To do these is slowing down my thoughts, working with small brushes, blending and re-blending, all to capture so much in such a small space.  It is both challenging and rewarding.  This big sky is took place one morning with the sun just making its way above the hills in South Laguna Beach, illuminating this band clouds that disappeared to the horizon.   It was a must stop and catch ones breath.  Such a beautiful planet, do take care of her. #10 " For the "SCRAPBOOK SERIES"

                                                    "SHADES OF GRAY"
                                                     24x24 oil on canvas

Where I was standing I could see the clouds building and the trees started to rustle and sway back and forth.  The sky turned dark, the clouds began to expand and move toward me.  I headed back inside just in time with the first drops beginning to fall. I stood in the comfort of the home and watched the clouds and sky turn beautiful shades of gray.
I thought to myself... Here's another painting.

#9 in the "SCRAPBOOK SERIES"

                                                    "AFTER THE RAINS"
                                                     24x24 oil on canvas

The rains had stopped.  At times it was as though the sky had opened up and all the water in the heavens came down at once.  With the earth not being able to hold any more water, this was a perfect time for me to go take a look.   Camera in hand, I headed out to find that something, It was then, with the sun beginning its descent, lighting up sky and clouds and giving a fabulous encore performance to the now present pond, I found just what I was looking to paint.
This painting will be on display at this summers up coming show in Laguna Beach California.
