BRACKISH WATERS

                                                        BRACKISH WATERS
                                                          6x6" oil on panel

The sun was setting as I raced to find parking in order to find parking and walk down to the water.  This place is back-bay in Newport Beach with up scale homes that surround this most beautiful place.  I had to sneak in just to get the shot.  There is a price to see beauty, a price to see brackish water.

L.A. DRIZZLE

                                                        "L.A. DRIZZLE"
                                                             24x24 oil

My continued fascination with what happens to light when out of focus has become a  wonderful dance when I am painting it...  First, I must understand what makes the blur, then how to paint it and still keep some semblance of recognition of subjects.  Truly a joy to pull off.   Then, just to make it look even more blurry, I paint crystal clear rain drops in-front of all,  accentuating the abstraction of light even further...

"LAGUNA MORNING"

                                                           "LAGUNA MORNING"
a 6x6 inch study on wood

After months of painting only my large canvass it feels so good to return to my small studies on wood.  To do these is slowing down my thoughts, working with small brushes, blending and re-blending, all to capture so much in such a small space.  It is both challenging and rewarding.  This big sky is took place one morning with the sun just making its way above the hills in South Laguna Beach, illuminating this band clouds that disappeared to the horizon.   It was a must stop and catch ones breath.  Such a beautiful planet, do take care of her. "OUR-TOWN"

Downtown USA on any given day.  When I was doing some of my road shows, traveling through small towns, stopping here and there to ether sleep or eat, I was taken by a feeling that time stood still.  It was like simplicity was alive and well, maybe even innocence prevailed amongst the youth; one can only hope and dream.   I call this painting "OUR-TOWN" seems so appropriate on this day of history making.    40x34 oil on canvas for this summers show.

"THE SENTINEL"

A study of rust at first glance but there is so much more.  That is what I wanted the feeling to be about in this painting.  I wanted not just to show the age of the subject but the strength of what was.
It is something that we so many times forget to do.  To understand and respect the old as they are the sentinel's of the past and future.  This is a 36x36" oil on canvas.

"ROSE" & "PURPLE SILK"

"PURPLE SILK"

"ROSE"

Playing with shapes and color I painted these two faces both with the intent of my love for painting women and a wonderful departure from my skies.   There are aspects of each that I will use in some future works, but for now I am really liking them and the change of pace.

This is a 6x6 inch original oil painting on Birch wood mounted to a hand finished wooden box with no framing required.

"PROPERTY LINE" original oil painting

Awakening in the morning and seeing the sun just beginning to rise I realized it had stopped snowing, at least for the time being.  I took this shot in the hopes of a painting.   As I stood  looking out I thought "gosh, no walls"? In Southern California everything is walled in.  You're  lucky if you see, let alone meet, your neighbor, a kind of a commentary on my society as of late.  My son and his wife met their neighbors before they moved in.   Here the property line is open and free, bound only by the respect for one another.  Oil painting on a 6x6" Birch panel that is mounted onto a varnished wooden box: (SOLD)

"FRONT DOOR"

My first morning in my sons home, I crept upstairs from the basement "something we don't have in California" and immediately made a pot of coffee.  Cup in-hand I moved quietly around as everyone was still asleep upstairs.  I went to the front door, opening it; only to be greeted by a second etched in glass.  Looking out at the snow and cold within inches of me  while still being protected by the warmth of this house, I smiled and said to myself "here is your next painting." This is a 6X6" oil painting on Birch panel that is mounted onto a varnished wooden box:  (Sold)

"AWAKENING"

The beginning of the morning was wonderful after the rains had washed the air and all clean. It allowed the sun to illuminate the now crystal clear sky and its rays to peek through the trees making for a most perfect days beginning.   This 8x6" in oils is on Birch panel mounted onto a varnished wooden box:   (sold)
