THE STANDOFF

                                                          "THE STANDOFF"
                                                         8x8inch oil on panel

On a back dirt road, this young longhorn stopped and stared as I did as well.   I was in my van, window down and we just looked at one another.  After a time he moved on, joining the rest of his group. and I did the same.

"RUMBLINGS"

                                                           "Rumblings"
                                                             40x20 oil

Standing off to the side of the road I could hear this rumbling sound that sounded like thunder and with each passing minute it was getting closer.  Looking around, I could not tell in which direction the sound was coming from.  Then, with a deep throaty groan I saw it and like a mighty dragon hugging the very ground it moved on, it showed all, who had the undisputed right of way.

This will be at this summers Laguna Festival of the Arts

Here is #12 for the SCRAPBOOK SERIES"

                                                                   "OFF SHORE"
                                                               30X30 oil on canvas

I'm not sure just when I took this picture, but at the time my thought of painting it was far, faraway.  I was North on the Interstate 5 heading up to Redlands, California when I pulled off onto a little road with a sign that said "DEAD END".  So! I of course had to see where this might take me.   Well, much to my delight, 8 miles into this drive this is what I found.  Taking one photo using film of the time.   Putting this photo away with all the rest of forgotten shots  I found it and said to self, "Hello!" Here is another for my scrapbook series.... Nice find.

"SCRAPBOOK SERIES"

                                                            "CONTEMPLATION "
                                                                14x14 oil on canvas

The name of this painting has so many meanings for me.  This place was a discovery, my direction on the never-ending hunt for what I want to say and how to do that is a discovery...  I must let go, for to hold on means I stay in one place and I won't do that;  So discovery is a new me and that spell's freedom.

"FIRST CLOUD"

This painting is from a road trip traveling through Kansas.   The day started off with another cloudless sky adding to the fourth month of much needed rain.  The temperature again was way above normal with hot air blowing the lands dry, making for a perfect combination to form the familiar dust devils one sees when crossing the great American Plains.  I had already been driving on the road for about 7 hours when I stopped to take some photographs for some later paintings when I  turned and looked west, there in the blue, blue sky, the first cloud in months.   Shortly after I arrived at my hotel in the early evening, I was standing outside watching a cloud covered sky when the first light rain began to fall.  This painting is a 6x6 inch on panel mounted to a varnished 1.5" deep box:
