"MY BLACK & WHITES"

Here is a continuation on a series of painting’s as B&W’s… I make my blacks using different color combinations making the black tones warm or cool, then into this concoction a secret dry dust is added that alters the reflective quality of each painting. This dust I refer to is so light that when mixed into the other colors I must turn off all fans, put a mask on, open the jar and carefully, dip a moist palette knife into the dust removing it slowly, for any fast movement and it will float into the air getting everywhere. I then place it gingerly on the colors and slowly blend until I have achieved the shade I want… Now I add my white and this gives me some wonderful gray tones making each painting unique onto itself. Why you ask? Just the madness of loving what I do.

Now here is a painting that I thought I would do as a daily taken from a larger 36x34 painting I just did for the Vegas Art Expo. I really liked the felling and wondered just how it would work in this size and was pleasantly surprised . I was picking up a friend and as I looked up the tracks there was my next painting coming around the bend.

Here is the other that I re-painted.. The colors are really much richer in-person. I must say, I really like painting on this oak surface… I like cutting the wood, sanding and all, then preparing the surface to accept the oils.. I also just ordered some gessoed panels that are set on a 2” deep frame and are 6”x6” so I’ll see what that looks like, and if I like it, I’ll put them out there…. I do like mixing it up, it keeps it fresh, like doing the daily blogs, makes me think, makes me work, that and some good wine, kick-back with some Latin jazz and let the paint do it’s thing.

Yes! You have seen this one before, but I re-painted the street. After looking at it, I said, "Mr,G, You can do better" Sooo, I'm showing it again and liking it better. I will be showing another that I just repainted, except that one I re did the the whole painting.. There is not to many things in life that one can re-do so I take full advantage of when I can. It had been a hot muggy summer as I stood looking out at to sea and watched the first rains come in and a spectacular lightning storm that soon fallowed if only brief.

Here is the first of many to fallow of my daily paintings. I must say, it feels great to get back painting without any thoughts of doing a show.. Here is the back of a harbor down south and the light that obscured the detail in the buildings giving off some wonderful shadows making this a good subject.

This was on a day trip going up to Big Bear here in CA. A little deferent subject for me to paint but one that I wanted to do. The quietness of the place was amazing.

Another spectacular sunset in Southern California. This is looking north to Malibu. The lighting and subject gave me just what I needed for this painting.

Passing through Salinas in California, the farmers plant these trees to block and shield the crops from winds that blow across fields. I wanted to paint this in shades of grays with touches of color giving a very soft and moody feeling to this.

Another sunny day here in L.A. I think, "And sometimes that a good thing" that because of all the sunshine as an artist living here I see more contrasts and depth of color pertaining to subjects and this shows up in most of my paintings. I feel there is an influence to the minds-eye....Oops! I did wonder from a relatively happy painting.

Working out the grays and coloring in this was fun to do. This is one of many overpasses in LA that I had a photo to work from. My camera being a part of the tools for me then taking the image, committing it to canvas or in this case wood, and then giving it life and mood makes what I do a wonderful journey.

It is always great to go into small towns where time stands still for a moment. I worked on this to give the feeling of another area. The style of buildings and coloring played an important factor to the feel I was going for. I kept my brush work loose, "at least loose for me" as not to get into those tight places I find myself going.

For the Laguna Art Festival
Laguna is filled with little streets that meander up and down many hills with most of the homes facing the ocean. Over time many have lost there view of the water. So to have a peek through a window and be able to see the water is a real treat and if your renting such a room you pay top dollar, the more you can see the higher the price....Ah the madness of it all.

This is the drive down to the beach, it is the " The Laguna Canyon." For now it is just a sleepy road, but in four weeks there will be thousands of cars daily heading to the show that I'm in called "The Laguna Festival of the Arts" It is here that I will spend two months, seven day's a-week at smiling, talking, promoting what I'm about to hundreds of people everyday. This is where my bigger canvases are seen and this will be the first time at this show that I'll be showing my blog paintings and will have the opportunity to talk about not just my blog but all of us on the "Daily Painters Gallery" site. This show pulls in 5,000 people a day as a minimum. I hope we all benefit. For two month I will most likely not be able to ad any blogs to the dailies, there is just no time to paint, my painters cloths come off and its slacks & silk shirt time.

The soft light at this time of the morning gave me a great opportunity to take some photos. As much as I wanted to keep fishing I was also looking forward to seeing the photograph knowing that this was going to be a fun painting to pull off. Hello my amigos, sorry to be away for so long, but this show that I keep referring to has kept me from supporting you all. If I wasn't such a perfectionist with my work it would be a snap. I found this photo from a surprise trip to family and thought it would make a great subject to paint.

I love painting these and was inspired by my own blog "that a lucky lady now has." So here it is again on canvas. To paint shiny objects is just such a thrill and the airstream gives me that need for realism and abstraction all rolled into one painting. "What a joy." I found this photo I had taken a long time ago and with the memories of this trip and the hotel & restaurant where the food was "not bad" I thought it would be fun to paint. There is so much paint on this little panel for I had painted over another so it gave a nice build-up and allowed me to keep it loose and thats a nice treat for me.

So here is a new blog that I finely was able to get to, I must say, not doing the daily blogs and seeing guys like Edwards and the rest of you bloggers producing, I get jealous even tho I'm painting my big canvases everyday, its just not the same. That being said, here is a new painting. I just landed on the island and one of its many rains had just stopped. I did this painting hoping to capture the feeling of the humidity and feeling that prevails there like no other place.

The painting was taken from a photo shoot at a magical place in Newport Beach called Rogers Gardens.I must have spent day's there looking and enjoying all that surrounded me. It is a place of only positive thoughts.

I have never painted a flower this small and I must say, "I really like this process."
This will be the first in a series working from a photo study I did on flowers some years back. The canvases I painted on at the time were 48"x48" up to 72"X72".... So here I am 15 years later, looking at my photos with new interest and excitement on doing them for my blog. This is the first of, of however many I paint. Enjoy.
